Summary: | Candidiasis is a disease caused by Candida albicans. Candidiasis can be
prevented by synthetic antibiotics, but it may develop resistancy. The purpose of
this research is to study the phytochemicals content and concentration of ethanolic
extract of senggugu leave (Clerodendron serratum [L.] Spreng) to inhibit the
growth of C. albicans. In this study ethanolic extract of senggugu leave was used
for TLC test and antimicrobial activity test against C. albicans. In study the
concentration of ethanol extracts applied were 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%, 15%, 20%,
25%, 50% and 75%. Nystatin 250,000 U/L was used as a positive control. TLC
analysis used silica Gel F254 as the stationary phase and chloroform : ethanol
70% (9:2) as the mobile phases. The antimicrobial activity test was done by
calculating the inhibitory zone formed using standard diffusion method. The
results showed that the ethanolic extract contains of alkaloids, flavonoids,
terpenoids saponins and tannins, with Rf 0,164 |
