Air transportation infrastructure has an important role in regional economic development as it plays a key role in supporting the movement of people and goods to various areas/regions that have been linked in the global economy . Although there is a strong relationship or correlation between economic growth and air transport, a causal relationship between them has not been fully explained, particularly for cases in Indonesia This study aims to identify the direction of causality that occurs in the interaction of air transportation activity in the regional economy as well as analyze trends in regional direction of causality in Indonesia. The variables used in this study were aircraft passenger and cargo of the air transport activity and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and labor of the regional economy . Analysis tools used are the Dynamic Panel Granger Non-Causality with Fixed Coefficient. This study was conducted with data collection in fifteen provinces in Indonesia in 2002-2011. The analysis showed that heterogeneity occurs in the causal relationship between aircraft passenger to GDP , GDP to passengers, and GDP to cargo. Air transportation activity tends to serve as a driver of regional development (regional development catalyst) in eastern Indonesia, while in the West Region Indonesian economic growth tends to increase the demand for air transportation services. This can be one of the considerations in determining the development priorities in the area of air transport infrastructure
