Description
Summary:Lift and drag characteristics of hydrofoils with 109, 20°, and 45° dihedral angles have been investigated in a costumely-build water tunnel facility equipped with an 8-bit data acquisition system. It was found that the lift-curve slopes, the coefficients of lift and drag change considerably if its dihedral angle was altered. The coefficient of lift (CI) increased and coefficient of drag (0d) decreased with increasing dihedral angle from 20°. to 45° for all values of a. If the dihedral angle was increased from 10° to 20°, at low a, CI increased while Cd decreased. However, for high ot, a 104, both CI and Cd increased. It was suspected that 'the competition between the effects of tip -vortices and-flow strengthening at the root-pdayad significant role in characterizing the lift and-drag of hydrofoils. Further investigations iinplemen ting flow visualization methods are necessary.
