The first principle of treatment with oral anti epilepsy is monotherapy. If the monotherapy fails, the polytherapy can be used. The drug of choice for partial epilepsy is carbamazepine. When the carbamazepine can't to be tolerated, the other monotherapy should be use. The vigabatrin as a new anti epilepsy agent is studied and compared with carbamazepine as a monotherapy in partial epilepsy. This metaanalysis study showed that the efficacy of vigabatrin and carbamazepin is not different. The side effect of vigabatrin isn't lower than carbamazepine.
