Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: A series of 4-substituted curcumin (14 compounds : seven aryl substituted, six alkyl subsituted and curcumin) have been synthesized. These compounds have been identified and physico-chemically characterized and subsequently they were investigated for their anti-inflammatory activity, stability in. phosphate buffer, oxygen radical scavenging and inhibitory of cyclooxygenase activities. The synthesis was carried out according to Pabon (1964), following a sequence in accordance with the Topliss scheme. The structure elucidation of all compounds is based on UV-Vis (X Me0H), nuclear magnetic resonance (5 ppm, CDC13 or DMSO-d6) and mass spectra (El, m/z). The anti-inflammatory activity was studied through the inhibition of oedema induced in rat feet by injection of carrageenin according to Winter et al.(1962). Their stability in aqueous solution was observed in phosphate buffer with pH 6.5
