Description
Summary:Synthesisofcement-zeolitecompositegranulesandtheadsorption-desorptiontestofethanol/watermixturehavebeensuccessfullyconducted.Cement-zeolitecompositegranulesweremadebymanuallystirringthemixtureof5gramsofnaturalzeolite,2gramsofportlandcement,and4mLofdistilledwaterinaporcelaindisk.Thesuspensionwasformedasgranulesandwasallowedtobedryatroomtemperaturein5days.Cement-zeolitegranuleswerecharacterizedusinginfraredspectroscopy(FTIR)andX-raydiffraction(XRD)methods.Thecompressivestrengthofcement-zeolitecompositegranuleswasdeterminedusingmaterialtestingmachine.Adsorptioncapacitytestwascarriedoutbysoakingcompositegranulesinwaterfor24hoursandthencalculatingtheweightdifferenceofcompositeganulesbeforeandaftersoaking.Adsorptionanddesorptiontestwereconductedbydropping1mLethanol-watermixturewithvariousconcentrations(99.9%,90%,80%and75%(v/v))ofethanoloncompositegranulesanditsadsorption-desorptiontimewasthennoted. C haracterizationusingFTIRshowedthefunctionalgroupsofcement-zeolitecompositegranulefillersandthefunctionalgroupsindicatingtheformationofcalciumsilicatehydrate(CSH)fromthecementhydrationreaction.ResultsofanalysisusingX-raydiffractionconfirmedtheFTIRdatawhichwasmarkedbythepresenceofdiffractionpeaksofthecompositecement-zeolitegranulefillersandcementhydrationproducts(ettringite,jennite,andtobermorite).Thestudyofthezeoliteparticlesizeeffectonthequalityofthecompositegranulesshowedthatthecompositegranuleswithparticlesizeof400meshasthehighestwateradsorptioncapacity(31.39%)andforparticlesizeof80meshhasthehighestcompressivestrength(140.4863N).Thestudyontheinfluenceoftheamountofcementshowedthatthecompositegranulespreparedbymixing1gramofcementwith5gramsofzeolitehasthehihestwateradsorptioncapacity(35.5%).Thehighestcompressivestrength(119.5302N)wasachievedbythecompositegranulesmadewith5gramsofcement.Theresultofdesorptiontimetestshowedthattheethanoldesorptiontimewasmuchfasterthanthatthewater,andthistimedifferencewasthenusedasthebasisforseparationofethanol-watermixturewithoutheating.
