Summary: | Accumulation of plaque on space maintainer plate surface should always be
cleaned, so it is not harm to the health of the mouth. In addition to mechanical means,
the cleaning plate space maintainer can be done by chemical means, namely with
cleaning solution. This study aimed to compare extracts of papaya fruit and papain
enzyme concentration of 1% and 1.5% in inhibiting the growth of plaque and S. alpha
in space maintainer removable plate.
Studied 10 mandibular removable space maintainer is used by 10 subjects
children BinBaz Islamic Center Foundation. After insertion of the subjects were
instructed to clean the appliance space maintainers 2 times a day, when brushing teeth
morning and night with a soak in a sanitizing solution for 10 minutes. Cleaning
solution used for soaking the papaya fruit extract 1% and 1.5%, and the enzyme
papain 1% and 1.5%. Each appliance immersed for 7 days alternating with pauses 7
days a washing period. Data analyzed by Anova 2 lines and pairwise comparisons.
The highest reduction mean in plaque score and S.alpha in papaya extract
solution 1.5% on the fitting surface of 0.42 ± 0.15 and 52.10 ± 8.62. Anova test
results 2 lines there was significant difference in plaque score (F = 1.785 p = 0.000)
and S.alpha (F = 2.186 p = 0.000). Analysis of pairwise comparisons showed reduced
plaque scores and the number of S. alpha significance (p <0.05) between papain
solution 1% and 1.5% with a solution of papaya fruit extract 1% and 1.5%. It can be
concluded that the solution is more papaya fruit extract inhibits the growth of plaque
and S.alpha than papain enzyme solution. Decrease in plaque score and S.alpha
greater surface depth than the outer surface. Papaya fruit extract solution
concentration of 1.5% more plaque and S.alpha lower score. |
