Summary: |
The most important factor affecting performance and longevity of biomedical implants is the wear rate of the biomaterial component. Wear debris has been linked to complications including tissue inflammation, osteolysis process, and implant loosening. Reduction of wear debris has been reduced by surface treatments of the biomaterials. Surface treatments with ion implantation has been used to reduce the wear debris. Ion implantation technique uses highly energetic beams of ions (positively charged atoms) to modify surface structure and chemistry of biomaterials. This technique can be increasing the mechanical properties of biomaterial to improve wear resistance of biomedical implants.
Surface treatments with ion implantation is considered to be the one of solution to reduce the wear rate and to enhance the lipe span of the biomedical implants and improved biocompatibility are also presented.
|
