Description
Summary:
The Use the dentures for a long time and continuously may cause some reaction to the tissue and in case to accumulate plaque and food scraps. The buildup of plaque and food scraps will enhance Candida albicans colonies that might result in denture stomatitis. The prevention of denture stomatitis is by maintaining oral hygiene and cleanliness of dentures from the contamination of Candida albicans. One way to prevent denture stomatitis is by soaking the dentures in denture cleanser. This study aims to determine the effectivenessof extracts of Areca Catechu L. as a cleaning solution to the presence of Candida albicans on the basisof heat cured acrylic resindentures. In this study, the acrylic resin plate sized 10x10x1mm is immersed in a solution of extract of Areca Catechu L.15%for 8 hours and sterile distilled water as control. This research uses laboratory experimental method with Post test only control group design. The outcome data were analyzed with One Way ANOVA test to determine the number of colonies of Candida albicans. The results of this study is that it can be concluded that the immersion in the extract of Areca Catechu L.concentration of 15%for 8 hours effectively reduce the number of colonies of Candida albicans.
