The researcher aimed to explore perceptions of students and teachers on factors contributing to students' academic perform and differences in their perceptions. The study was conducted in a high school in Kandal province. This study employed multiple methods of data collection. First, data were collected through in-depth individual interview with students and teachers. Second, an observation method was applied to collect data such as time management by learners, their behavioral patterns inside and outside the classroom and in the school yard. Finally, document analysis was also employed to analyze the attendance and performance of learners on attendance registers and mark sheets. Key finding of this study indicated that teachers and students perceived home and school environment as factors influencing the students' achievement. Home environment of students included socio-economic status, lack of parental involvement, and educational levels of parents while teachers' inadequate instruction, absenteeism, peer group pressure and poor understanding of students on education were considered as school environment. Responses of teachers showed that absenteeism, peer group pressure and poor insight of students on education influenced students' academic performance. Students' response on the other hand showed that teachers' inadequate instruction did influence their learning achievement.enRoyal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP)Students' academic perform factorsA narrative study of low-achieving high school students in Kandal ProvinceThesis
