Summary: | Prediction of the particle sizes of the emulsion produced by laser-cut mixing of oil in water using a computational fluid dynamics approach , and also simultaneously tracking the events of cavitation occurring within an injector nozzle and he liquid jet breakup process, inclusive of spray formation outside the nozzle is presented. A fluid model which is embedded with a Volume-of-Fluid model is used to monitor the liquid-gas interface dynamics. A simple 2D model of a nozzle is constructed in GAMBIT and then the mesh is run in FLUENT 12. Liquid turbulence is modelled using the RNG k-ε model coupled with the cavitation model. Different flows based on the Reynolds Number, and cavitation numbers were tested. The simulated results were then compared with the experimental data provided in the article. |
