To meet the growing demand for energy of transportation in a sustainable way is one of the greatest challenges for the 21st century. Petroleum based products are in critical phase and alternatives for fuel is needed. A strong need exists for efficient ethanol production with low cost and in raw material and energy consumption to replace the fossil fuel. Hence, ihis paper discusses the performance of bioreactor in order to produce ethanol from Manihot esculenta (cassava) starch. This study identifies and quantifies the factors that influence ethanol yield on the fhermo- enzymatic hydrolysis of starch during saccharification followed by fermentation (SFF) processes. The SSF process at high yields concentration by using both enzymes and Baker's yeast appears to be the simplest and most economically viable approach to obtain'suitable ethanol production for distillation in an effective way. Thus, several process parameters must be optimized: enzymes (a-amylase and amyloglucosidase) concentration as well as yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) concentration. 2011-10-24T05:07:28Z 2011-10-24T05:07:28Z 2009-08-12 Working Paper p. 809-813 http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/14889 en Proceedings of 3rd International Conference on Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering (ICCBPE 2009) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) School Of Engineering & Information Technology
