Description
Summary:The aim of this study was to introduce the practice of Interest Based Bargaining (IBB) as a strategy of consultancy and as an alternative to distributive bargaining.IBB was highlighted as an alternative way of bargaining so that the trade unions and employers can change their perception of conflict, from negotiating based on conflict to negotiations based on cooperation.Based on a study involving 164 trade union leaders in Sabah, the attitude of collectivism and the perception of the relationship of trade unions and employers were used as predictor variables of IBB. Results of the study revealed that the attitude of collectivism is a significant predictor of IBB and the perception of the relationship trade unions and employers is vice versa. However, this study provide implications for the theoretical aspects by developing the IBB conceptual framework to accommodate the lack of collective bargaining studies in Malaysia.
