Summary:This study explores the existing education and training programs related to youth in terms of their objective, target group, training provider, and learning outcomes, in order to fulfill the needs of future youth in Malaysian nation building. The purpose of this paper is to provide the information of the existing youth’s educational and training programs with national agenda. This study further identifies the types of education and training needed by youth as offered by training providers from Malaysian government agencies. A qualitative field study is then carried out to examine the perceptions of training providers. The findings from the qualitative study and literature review will be utilised for further investigation as regard to the effectiveness and relevancy of the existing youth’s education and training programs from the perspective of the employers and employees (youth) themselves in the second phase of quantitative study. Seven training providers of various training programs from six Malaysian ministries are studied via interviews with key personnel. The results of this study will identify the important/main variables as related to the youth training programs. The implications and future directions of the study will also be discussed.
