Summary: | Virtual counselling is an online counselling and therapy, which referring to individual or group contact, using either synchronous or asynchronous communication mode in. At the moment, University Utara Malaysia (UUM) offered counselling services for students and staff in terms of academic, personal, career and interpersonal development through individual and group sessions, consultation sessions, and psychological tests. These services are offered manually although digital documents are used in facilitating the registration and appointment purposes. Realizing that this practice created some barriers between students and staff who are seeking for counselling services, this study has proposed to design a Virtual Counsellor in improving the services and other aspects including confidentiality. Due to its suitability and compatibility with the scope of study, a Design Science Research methodology is adapted to design the research framework. Research methodology is divided into four main phases; awareness of problem, suggestion of solution, design and development of UUM Virtual Counsellor (UUMVrC), and evaluation. Five main categories are proposed to be included in the proposed Virtual Counsellor; personal, academic, health, financial, and counselor’s room. These categories are designed in different sessions by using live-chat facilities. The prosed design of Virtual Counsellor has been evaluated through two main aspects; functionality and its usability involving 33 respondents among UUM community. Responses show that UUM community are highly aware of the concept of Virtual Counselling. They agreed that the proposed Virtual Counsellor is useful and easy to be used |
