Summary: | As international tourism has been emerging as one of the world’s most prosperous industries, the demand in research investigating tourism terms and their translation has also arisen (Skibitska, 2015). Studies have addressed the importance of translating tourism text accurately and the necessity of evaluating the quality of the existing tourism texts (Agomi, 2012; Manca, 2004; Pham, 2012). In light of the previous research conducted in the recent decades, the researcher realises the need for an in-depth analysis regarding the quality of the tourism texts translation in Vietnam. Thus, a study on “Assessing the Vietnamese - English translation of the articles in the section of “Vietnam - Country and People” on the VNAT homepage” was conducted. With Newmark’s TQA model as the analytical framework, this study investigates different aspects of the source texts, the translation, as well as the equivalence and mismatch between them. In the process of contrastive analysis, the researcher also reveals the dominant translation procedures and methods used in the tourism texts. Remaining problems in the translation are also identified, further provide more critical reflection on the quality of the translation. |
