Summary:The study focused on the relationship of motivational orientation and perceived coaching style to the athletic performance of student athletes. A sample of seven different UAAP basketball teams consisting of eight players in each team, giving the researchers a total of fifty-six subjects participated in the study. Moderate correlation was found among the variable. Pearson's r was 0.58 for the correlation between perceived coaching style and athletic performance while point biserial coefficient was equal to -0.52 for correlation between motivational orientation and athletic performance. Both results were found to be significant and the null hypotheses were rejected. Multiple regression analysis shows a 0.66 correlation between the combined effects of motivational orientation and perception of coaching style with athletic performance.
