Bound for the pros: a look at the athletic performance of the student athletes in the UAAP.

The study focused on the relationship of motivational orientation and perceived coaching style to the athletic performance of student athletes. A sample of seven different UAAP basketball teams consisting of eight players in each team, giving the researchers a total of fifty-six subjects participated in the study. Moderate correlation was found among the variable. Pearson's r was 0.58 for the correlation between perceived coaching style and athletic performance while point biserial coefficient was equal to -0.52 for correlation between motivational orientation and athletic performance. Both results were found to be significant and the null hypotheses were rejected. Multiple regression analysis shows a 0.66 correlation between the combined effects of motivational orientation and perception of coaching style with athletic performance.
