Summary: | This study examined the influence between internal factors (perceived ability and athletic identity), external factors (coach's coaching style, parents' support, and peers' support), motivational climate and goal orientation of female softball players who participated in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines. A total of 69 subjects answered 7 types of scales, namely 13-item Task and Ego Orientation Sports Questionnaire (TEOSQ), 21-item Perceived motivational climate sports questionnaire (PMCSQ), 34-item Physical Self-Description Questionnaire (PSDQ), 10-item Athletic Identity Measurement Scale, (AIMS), 18-item Parent-Initiated Motivational Climate Questionnaire-2 (PIMCQ-2), 15-item Sport Climate Questionnaire (SCQ), 33-item Peer Motivational Climate in Youth Sport Questionnaire (PMCYS). Descriptive Statistics, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression were used to analyze the data. In general, the findings showed that there is a significant correlation between internal factors and goal orientation, external factors (coaching style and peers' support) and motivational climate, and between motivational climate and goal orientation. On the other hand, the findings showed an insignificant correlation between parent's support and motivational climate. Using a multiple regression analysis, it was found that internal factors (predictor) influence goal orientation (criterion), external factors (coach's coaching style and peers' support) influences the athlete's motivational climate, and the motivational climate influence goal orientation. On the other hand, the findings also showed that parents' and peers' support are not unique predictors of motivational climate, therefore insignificant. |
