Bustamante, Monique L. Cuvin, Elizabeth Anne A. Yambao, Margarita B. This study was designed to investigate the determinants of body image among selected Filipino high school students in Metro Manila. Four independent variables (age, gender, body mass index and type of school) were chosen as part of the study to determine what contributes to a person's body image. Each of these was dichotomized into two groups to be able to ascertain which group has the stronger influence on body image. A total of 134 high school students ranging from 13-14 and 16-17 years of age in private and public schools were included in the study. The Body Esteem Scale was used to measure a specific aspect of self-concept: how one feels about his or her own body appearance while a self-construct test on Body Satisfaction was used to assess body satisfaction. The researchers have found out that age, gender, type of school and body mass indexes have not produced significant differences in the sample's body image by using the t-test for two independent samples with unequal variance. Moreover, the findings on body satisfaction showed that there is significant relationship between body image and body satisfaction with the influence of age nullified. However, a significant relationship was not established when gender, body mass index and types of schools were ruled out. 1999-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/10880 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository
