Summary: | Past research on coaching development has indicated how elite coaches attain knowledge but have not presented clear stages with regards to this. This study aims to propose a possible framework with regards to the development of elite coaches. Samples of six (6 coaches) were selected through purposive sampling with the demographic being based on the years of experience and the accreditations of the coach. Respondents were interviewed and data analyzed using content analysis. Results indicate that coaches develop by passing through three stages: finding a reason to coach, self-reflection of past experiences and attaining characteristics of the elite. Further analysis of data proposes a cyclical approach on how coaches develop. |
