Summary: | The insecticidal activity of methanol and water extracts from dried Lansium domesticum Correea peelings was investigated by testing on cockroaches the extracts by four methods: maceration, soaking, boiling and soxhlet extractions. The most effective insecticidally active extract was that obtained by soxhlet extraction. The water extracts were resolved into three components using 1:1:2 glacial acetic acid-chloroform-benzene by thin layer chromatography. The methanol extracts were separated into two spots using 1:2:4 methanol-acetone-diethyl ether. Phytochemical tests performed indicate the presence of alkaloids, cardenolides and/or bufadienolides and condensed tannins. |
