Summary: | This study aims to determine the motivations, behaviors, effects and the differences between fans and non-fans of the telenovelas. A purposive sampling was used in getting the total of 100 participants in 5 cities of Metro Manila. An interview guide was used to obtain the data and it was then content analyzed and categorized by the researchers, then using the Excel pivot table to generate the sum of findings. Findings show that both groups gave similar responses in their motivation and behavior, as well as the effects of telenovela viewing. Fans and non-fans are motivated to watch telenovelas based on the participants interest on the story and fondness or liking for the characters in the telenovela. Enjoyment/nakakapagpasaya and liking for the story were considered as the general categories of both fans and non-fans behaviors. Effects, on the other hand, shows that the participants come out happy and there is enjoyment in watching the telenovelas viewing. The effects differ on the frequencies between the two groups and it depends on the person watching. Personal experiences and biases will affect one depending on what one's current life situation and emotional status is. Everyone is influence and affected by the telenovela regardless of who they are and what status they come from in society. |
