The area in particular has a total of 350 hectares and has most of its drainage outfalls along the major esteros, namely, Estero Tripa de Gallina, Estero de Paco, Estero San Antonio Abad, and also Manila Bay. The drainage capacity of the many outfalls in the study area was found to be inadequate and unable to carry a ten year storm for which it was originally designed for. The only outfalls which were found to be adequate in the district of Malate were: 1.) Outfall (H) along Roxas Blvd., total area of 4.8 hectares, Q10 year = 0.34 cu.m/s, and Qcap = 3.95 cu.m/s. 2.) Outfall (O) along Roxas Blvd., total area of 1.94 hectares, Q10 year = 0.23 cu.m/s, and Qcap = 0.28 cu. m/s. 3.) Outfall (P), along Mabini St., total area of 1.73 hectares, Q10 year = 0.22 cu.m/s, and Qcap = 0.24 cu.m/s. 4.) Outfall (Q), along Mabini St., total area of 1.36 hectares, Q10 year = 0.23 cu.m/s, and Qcap = 0.29 cu.m/s. This shows that only 4 of the total 28 drainage outfalls are adequate to carry a 10-year storm. The study of the drainage outfalls was dependent on basic assumptions such as the velocity of the overland flow, the roughness coefficients, and the runoff coefficients.
