Summary: | For an athlete, the experience of getting injured has always been part of the game. Their experiences, however varies from one athlete to another depending on the type and extent of the injury. This qualitative study was done to examine the different experiences of injured athletes and to explore the factors that motivated them to get back into their sports despite getting injured. The data was provided by eight athletes (1 female, 7 male) from various sports event (e.g. football, basketball, volleyball, and table tennis) through in-depth interview. Results show three categories which fall under Experience, namely Perception, Impact of injury on athlete and reactions to injury. Findings on the factors influencing an athletes motivation to get back into sport, on the other hand were divided into two general categories, namely: Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivators. Based on the results of the result of the study, the experiences of athletes can also influence their motivation to get back into playing. |
