Description
Summary:This thesis deals with the design and making a prototype of a robot that would search and extinguish a flame inside a maze. Although there are other firefighting robots, this robot is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the 2006 Trinity College Firefighting. This thesis includes the study of the different robots, most specially, previous firefighting robots that participated in the competition. EDDIE, the fire robot, is a stand-alone system with the ability to locate and extinguish a list candle within a simulated home environment. The candle is representative of a fire that has started in a home and is randomly placed in one of four rooms as specified by the floor plan for the competition. The robot is self-controlled and should not bump into walls or the candle. The task of designing and constructing a successful robot has been an exciting challenge, involving the integration of mechanical, electrical, and computer knowledge.
