Description
Summary:Not only has watching movies become a favorite pastime for us, it already is an integral part of every Filipino's lives. Indeed, it would be hard to imagine not having seen a single film in one's lifetime. Life is in the movies, movies is our life. After all, the movie-theatrical industry in the Philippines is still the cheapest form of entertainment given the relatively low admission price. But despite all these, the industry has seen an abrupt decline in the number of moviegoers. No longer are we the fourth most moviegoing nation as the Guiness Book of World Records once claimed. A plethora of concerns can be blames for this sad development: piracy taxation, other forms of entertainment, political instability, etc. Even the deemed mighty foreign films were not spared. Foreign film admissions have also noticeably gone down. Warner Bros. Inc. one of the major American studios in the Industry, can attest to this. Though considered to be one of the most successful American Studios of all time, they also failed in luring back the people to the silver screen. Its profit share based on the sliding scale system is a proof of the widespread concern. Although, the sliding has been more beneficial to the exhibitors in the present times, it is imperative that the distributors also protect their interest in the sliding scale system. However, the present scenario does not guarantee this. In fact, industry experts have acquiesced that the current system is outdated and needs to be redone. However, this is such a Herculean task given the conflicting and sensitive nature of the issue. Making it doubly hard for them is the fact that it is also imperative to preserve good relationship with the exhibitors especially since one could not exist without the other.
