Description
Summary:An Assessment of the physico-chemical characteristics of Batangas Bay behind Barangay Sta. Rita Aplaya, Batangas was conducted from June 1993 to September 1993. The water samples collected and analyzed were from four different sampling stations. The parameters considered were: water temperature, pH, salinity, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand total solids, cadmium, and oil contents. The data gathered were compared to the standard set by the EMB under the class SB of marine water. The comparison showed that the parameters: temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and biochemical oxygen demand were all within their (EMB) limit, however the result for suspended solids (120.88 mg/L), cadmium content (0.026) mg/L), and oil content (17.31 mg/L) all exceeded the standard set by the government agency. This means that the water is not fit for swimming based on these three parameters.
