Summary: | This is a descriptive study which aimed to identify the child-rearing practices of single parents grouped according to sex, status and educational attainment. The interview method was utilized by the researchers. Content analysis was employed in analyzing the data gathered. The participants composed of 14 single mothers and 6 single fathers who were selected by the use of purposive sampling technique. Results showed that most single parents regardless of sex, status and educational attainment used the combinational disciplinary measure particularly the verbal/physical. Household management and playing rules are commonly established. Most of the single parents inculcate values on respectfulness and spirituality through being role models and through constantly reminding them of the said values. Single mothers have more time for their children compared to single fathers. Most of them prefer the direct approach in explaining the situation to their children. Single parents generate support mostly from the extended-family. Moreover, they receive help mostly on the financial, discipline and child are aspects of child-rearing. |
