Description
Summary:A study was conducted at De La Salle University Marine Biological Station at Matuod, Lian, Batangas to determine the primary productivity of green algae specifically, Halimeda macrophysa and Halimeda opuntia. Three sampling sites were considered in studying the primary productivity from July to December. In the determination of primary production, a modified light and dark bottle technique was used and determination of chlrophyll a and relative abundance was also done. Physico-chemical factors were also measured to determine its relation to the productivity of the specimen. All measurements were done during low tides. Net primary productivity of the two species of green algae were positive. Also a direct relationship between the NPP and alkalinity and relative abundance and chlorophyll a. Nutrient content were low and nitrates increased as the months of rain continued to pour. All physico-chemical factors were compared with the DENR criteria for SC water.
