Description
Summary:Static, acute toxicity tests were conducted to determine the percent mortality of the edible snail, Ampullaria sp. to the insecticide, carbaryl (Sevin 85). The 96-hr LC50 of carbaryl was estimated using the linear regression method. Results of the study showed a direct relationship between the percent mortality of Ampullaria sp. and the concentration of the pesticide. Snails exposed to 325 mg/L of carbaryl obtained a 37.7% mortality. In the 350 mg/L concentration, mortality was 44.4 % and 51.5% at 375 mg/L. Snails in the 400 mg/L concentration had a percent mortality of 57.7 and 68.7% at 425 mg/L. The 450 mg/L concentration had a mortality of 81.07%. Mortality in the control group was observed at 1.1%. The median lethal concentration (LC50) of carbaryl to edible snails Ampullaria sp. was estimated at 340.37 mg/L"
