Summary: | A total of 108 fecal samples collected in the month of October 1997 from grade 3 pupils (age ranging from 8-10 years old) of Gregorio del Pilar Elementary School were examined for the presence of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and hookworm infection using Kato Thick smear technique. The respondents were classified according to sex. Of the 108 fecal samples examined, 65 (60.19%) were positive for Ascaris lumbricoides and/or Trichuris trichiura. No hookworm infection was noted. The overall prevalence rate of A. lumbricoides was 33 (30.56 %), 18 of these were male and 15 were female. Prevalence rate of T. trichiura was 19 (17.60%), 9 of these were male and 10 were female. On the other hand, double infection (A. lumbricoides and T. trichiura) accounted for 13 (12.04%) of total persons examined, 7 of them males and 6 of them females. |
