Description
Summary:This study shall center on the operations of the Ethical Products-Flex Packaging Department of one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the Philippines which will be disguised under the pseudonym Drug Phil., Inc., for security purposes. In line with the company's goal to reduce the cost of its products in order to lower its market price, the Flex Packaging department has set its goal to reduce the department's own operating costs. Based on initial data gathered by the proponent, the major problem which hinders the department from reducing its operating cost is that of machine downtimes which happen 21.36% of the time, on the average. These downtimes result to a yearly loss of an average of Php 1,475,671.35 in terms of labor cost. The proponent established the cause and effect diagram of the said problem through the use of a relationship diagram and a pareto diagram. It was thus determined that the two most prevalent causes of machine downtimes are the malfunctioning and misalignment of machine parts which was brought by worn-out machine parts. Several alternatives were presented in order to solve the problem. The establishment of an enhanced maintenance system was then chosen as the solution to the problem of machine downtimes. The proposed system will incorporate two basic TPM concepts: Autonomous Maintenance and Planned Maintenance activities in order to provide a comprehensive maintenance system. Based on the proposed system, a replacement schedule was prepared for the maintenance staff. The proponent backtracked the replacement schedule on the previous data on downtimes in order to determine the effectiveness of the system. The proposed system yielded a 21.11% improvement which can further be translated to a yearly saving of Php 266,211.17 in terms of labor cost. The implementation phase of the proposed system focuses on the training programs for the operators and maintenance personnel which will serve as the introductory and educational part of the whole proposed system. The schedule of activities will be based on the curriculum that was prepared by the proponent which will cover the whole implementation phase of the enhanced maintenance system.
