Comparison of occupational health complaints between day shift and night shift workers at a call center in Santa Rosa, Laguna

Call centers are business establishments who make use of shift work systems to continuously operate and handle large volume of calls that may be inbound or outbound in nature. Eighty-five (40 day shift and 45 night shift) randomly selected respondents from a call center in Santa Rosa, Laguna Philippines participated in the study. The top five recent health complaints of day shift workers are: sore throat (83%), worsening of eyesight (65%), always sleepy (60%), ulcer (55%) and frequent back pains (53%). The top five health complaints of night shift workers are: sore throat (84%), ulcer (73%), worsening of eyesight (64%), frequent colds (58%) and always sleepy (56%). Day shift workers identified stress at work (83%) as the main cause of the stated health complaints while night shift workers declared that the poor sleeping habits (69%) affects their health condition.
