Summary: | Lupel Manufacturing Corporation is the sole distributor of Mitsubishi Writing Instruments in the Philippines. Lupel also manufactures its own brand of stick ball pen using the refills of Mitsubishi. In this study, the focus was placed on the production process of BA 45 stick ball pen.
The production Department of Lupel Manufacturing Corporation can be divided into two basic sections, the Injection Section, and the Assembly Section. The Injection Section can be further divided into four sections, the barrel, cap, mouthpiece, and tail-end injection sections respectively. Through the study it was found out that the barrel, cap, mouthpiece, and tail-end injection section was underutilized by 9.37%, 5.39%, and 8.89% respectively. The assembly section was underutilized by 18.24%.
After doing some analysis, the group found out that underutilization in the injection section was mainly caused by machine breakdowns due to timing belt failure. Underutilization in the Assembly Section on the other hand was caused by the inability of the contractual assembly workers to meet their quota.
In order to decrease if not eliminate underutilization in the Injection Section, a new procedure for changing the timing belts was proposed. The proposed solution requires the regular changing of the timing belts during Saturdays. For the Assembly Section the group proposed to hire 3 more regular assembly workers.
The general objective of this study is to decrease underutilization of the Production Department to at most 5% of the standard and to meet at least 80% of all orders placed. Through the proposed system an almost 100% utilization of the Production Department is expected. This is equivalent to P 153,282 per month increase in profit. |
