Effects of Liveraide (Silybum marainum) on the histology of mice (Mus musculus) liver and kidney

The study was done to determine the histological effects of varying dose of Liveraide (Silybum marianum), a medicinal herb on the kidneys and livers of laboratory mice (Mus muculus). Twenty four mice were used in the study. The mice were divided into 2 groups and forcefully fed with two different dosages of Liveraide. The first group was given 0.05 mg/ml Liveraide solution once a day, the minimum dosage group. The second group was given 0.11 mg/ml Liveraide solution once a day. The amount of dosage was based from the instruction of the drug use. The laboratory mice had there meals at 7:00am, 1200 noon and 5:00pm. At the first week, the mice were given time to acclimatize and therefore were not given the dosages. At the end of the first week, 2 mice were sacrificed as the control group. For the succeeding 4 weeks, 2 mice were randomly sacrificed. The livers and kidneys were procured and processed. Light microscopy work was done to ascertain the histological conditions of the mice.
