Description
Summary:Childhope Philippines Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and health services to street children. Because of this, the street educators (SEs) of Childhope are often exposed to the stories and experiences of the street children, which are largely negative. This affects the SEs emotionally, and because they are not allowed to show the children that they are affected to comply with DSWD and Childhope rules for SEs during the teaching sessions, they perform emotional labor, and mask their true emotions. Although it is required by the organization, Childhope inadequately communicates the information and messages regarding EL to the SEs. Consequently, the SEs end up concealing their true emotions, which impacts their individual and organizational well-being. To address this, an emotional labor manual and supplementary video were created and developed for the supervisors, guided by the framework of Grandey (2000) and Kahn (1993), and in collaboration with the street educators and supervisors of Childhope, and experts. The manual and supplementary video contained concepts of emotional labor to help supervisors understand and communicate its information to the street children and help them manage emotional labor and its effects.
