Summary: | A specially designed software that will translate an English text into Braille text enabled the use of microcomputers as a means of producing books in Braille. The software will translate an English textile entered by means of WORDSTAR into Braille Text. The textfile will first be checked for possible errors. If no errors are found, the translation process is initiated. After the translation process, the Braile Text is printed in its proper Braille code. A slight modification to the printer was made in which embossed dots were produced to enable tactile reading. In translating English Text to Braille code, Rules of Braille were followed. With the use of microcomputer, a more economical and efficient means of production of books in Braille will be made available to these organizations tasked with educating the blind. By making this capability available to these organizations, these organizations will then be able to produce books in Braille that will cater to the specific needs, making them more responsive. In this manner, they will be able to contribute greatly to the intellectual upliftment of these people deprived of their sight. |
