Description
Summary:Teenage parents' experiences and roles were investigated on six teenage couples. Interview schedule was used in this study. This employed a descriptive approach. Qualitative approach was used in interpreting the data gathered. The subjects were from Metro Manila and were not necessarily married who are living are together ranging from 15-21 years old. They should have a first born child of six months to one and a half years old. Chain referral and purposive sampling were used. The interview schedule consisted of open-ended questions based on the gathered related literature. The couples were interviewed separately. Transcriptions of the interviews followed and were summarized and analyzed. Based on the gathered data, the categories that surfaced were: feelings toward parenting, child-rearing, discipline practices, financial concern, decision-making, time management, home management, social life, and roles performed by each parent and roles performed by both parents. There are significant similarities and differences between the teenage fathers and mothers. The mothers are still responsible in areas regarding the management of the home, and care of the children. On the other hand, fathers take responsibility as head of the family. This study showed that child-rearing, decision-making, and home management are equally shared by both parents with one having slightly more control in certain areas than others.
