Through the use of this performance assessment task, students conceptual understanding of Ecological concepts, anchored particularly on the characteristics, sources and environmental impacts of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) were explored. The lesson on POPs was chosen as it has been widely recognized as a global threat due to its ubiquitous and detrimental effects on the environment. The study involved three Environmental chemistry and one Ecology classes, where students (n=100) are non-Science majors. The lesson on POPs was conducted incorporating the tenets of Muirs Meaningful Engaged Learning theory, which considered four important aspects/conditions namely environment, experience, motivation and meaning. The video clip presentations were assessed using a rubric designed by the researchers and subjected to validity by experts. As an advocacy campaign for the elimination or control on the use of POPs, students were made to upload their video clips in the World Wide Web through the YouTube, where feedbacks received from the viewers were likewise considered in the evaluation of the students work. The teacher performed the learner-centered parameters in the planning and preparation of lessons and classroom environment to a great extent. There is a positive perception towards the preparation of the videoclip presentation. There is a significant difference in the pre-test and the post-test in favor of the post-test.
