Predictors of achievement were also determined.Four hundred and ninety-four students acted as respondents of this research. The study made use of researcher-made questionnaires and an achievement test in Chemistry in high school. The descriptive research design is used. Findings showed that 36.84 percent of the student-respondents obtained low scores in the Chemistry achievement test. On student factors, a significant relationship existed between each characteristic like gender, grade in General Science and third year grade point average (GPA), and achievement in Chemistry tests. On parent factors, a significant relationship existed between fathers' and mothers' educational attainment and fathers' occupation and achievement in Chemistry concepts. The predictors of achievement in Chemistry were the grade in General Science, fathers' occupation, and third year GPA. Among the problems of students in learning Chemistry concepts are the need for more up-to-date textbooks and laboratory manuals, the use of abstract terms in the presentation of topics, and their not having a good preparation in Mathematics. Suggested solutions to these problems include the provision of adequate laboratory facilities, integration of various techniques in teaching, better instruction in Mathematics and English, and reduction of the number of students per class. 2000-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_doctoral/856 Dissertations English Animo Repository Achievement tests Chemistry--Study and teaching Education, Secondary High school seniors High school students Chemistry
