Tam, John Jeffrey C. This thesis is about the design and fabrication of a machine that shall automate the spiral binding of notebooks in Sterling Paper Company. A number of Spiral Binding Machines are currently available in some first world countries in Europe as well as in America. However, these highly sophisticated machines are extremely high in cost that is why many paper companies prefer to use manual labor. In Philippines setting, spiral bound notebooks are in great necessity especially among students, teachers, and other professionals. Thus, it is deal to construct a machine that could serve as a springboard for the Sterling Engineers to discuss action plans on how to further improve the notebook manufacturing processes. This thesis includes a study on the current manual spiral binding process and the identification of key problems that hinder the productivity of the spiral binding operation. This thesis also presents the mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic systems of the machine. Test results that are likewise incorporated in this thesis show that the Spiral Binding Machine improves efficiency which produces products of higher quality and merges two different processes of automatic coiling and manual insertion into one continuous process. The Spiral Binding Machine has a potential to be modified and further developed into a machine that could help Sterling Paper Company maximize its productivity in the future years to come. 2005-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_honors/315 Honors Theses English Animo Repository Bookbinding Bookbinding machinery |
