A total of 38 SPED public teachers and 38 SPED private teachers participated in this study. Results revealed that SPED teachers in both public and private schools use music as an energizer, attention getter, and class opener. Only a few of the respondents use music as a main teaching tool in enhancing the reading skills of the children with mental retardation. It was also found out that the SPED teachers in private schools use music in enhancing almost all the reading skills of the children with mental retardation. The SPED teachers in the public school do not use music in teaching morphemic analysis. Furthermore, the SPED teachers in the public schools perceives music as only slightly effective in enhancing the reading skills of children with mental retardation while the SPED teachers in the private schools perceives music as moderately effective. Moreover, the assessment of music in enhancing the reading skills of the children with mental retardation of the SPED teachers in the public and in the private schools yielded a t-value of 4.74, which is significant at .05 level. This led to the conclusion that there is a significant difference in the assessment of the effectiveness of music in enhancing the reading skills of the children with mental retardation. 2005-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/3268 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Effective teaching Mentally ill children Mental retardation Music Reading Teaching--Aids and devices |
