Summary: | This thesis is a research on the design and development of an interactive multimedia program for high school Home Economics subject. The guideline used in designing the multimedia program is taken from Jonassens five attributes of meaningful learning (Jonassen, 2000). These are active, constructive, intentional, authentic and cooperative. The interactive multimedia program was designed and developed using the five phases of the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate. In the Analysis phase, the topics the students find most difficult, their learning difficulties and the learning activities they learned best were identified. In the Design phase, the five attributes of meaningful learning were incorporated in the constructivist-oriented Goal-Based Scenario program. In the Development phase, the interactive multimedia program was created with the use of Macromedia Director. In the Implement phase, the teacher and students had a dry run with the program and then the program was pilot-tested by the selected students. Finally in the Evaluation phase, the Home Economics teachers and students evaluated the multimedia program in the aspects of content, pedagogy, design and navigation. The positive responses of the teachers and students in the evaluation phase indicate that the multimedia program promotes meaningful learning and this helps the students learn the topic. The multimedia program serves as a useful instructional material for the Home Economics subject. |
