Two teachers too many: A case study

The college department of Basquin Catholic College had been losing enrollment for the past five years, but the decrease was so small that it did not affect the school too much. This semesters decrease was quite big and not anticipated in the making of the class and teachers schedule. All the college teachers had signed up for the next year all of them were on permanent status. Most were with the school since the operation of the college department in 1961. With the present government policy on teachers tenure, the college teachers could not be removed from the school. This meant there were two teachers too many on the roster. The problem arises out of poor application of the management principles in the planning aspect. A careful forecasting considering not only the previous enrollment but also other factors should have been made by the registrar and the dean before making out the class and teachers program for the following year. The case is an administrative one. In solution to the problem posed in this case, alternative actions were recommended by the writer.
