CSR from within: An action research on a sustainable healthy working environment

This action research (AR) aimed to address the health risks faced by the employees in the Data and Reports Division II (DRD II) of the Supervisory Data Center (SDC), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), due to the inhalation of paper dusts from excessive paper materials in the workplace environment. In pursuit of the aforementioned, the AR focused on reducing the papers within the workplace of DRD II. In order to achieve a healthy and sustainable working environment for the employees, the action researcher, with the thrust to achieve an improved working environment, used the Carolls Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Pyramid, as the framework to support the need to focus on repercussions of the situation on the employees well-being. The CSR Pyramid identified that the top level of the pyramid should satisfy the need of the employees in making their quality of lives better. Ten employees in the department who have direct exposure to papers, eight of which are from DRD II, were interviewed and all confirmed of having allergic reactions and difficulty in breathing when being exposed to paper dusts.
