This quantitative study seeks to understand the relationship among the personal characteristics, gender identity and sexual orientation identity expression, experiences of social stigma, and the extent to which gay and lesbian educators would discuss gender sensitivity issues in classes in higher education institutions in Metro Manila. Specifically, the study focuses on how the teachers decision to pass or reveal their gender identity and sexual orientation identity affects their experiences of social stigma, and how that, in turn, affects the extent to which they discuss or write about gender sensitivity issues. A total of 60 teachers from sectarian and non-sectarian colleges and universities in Metro Manila were surveyed. Descriptive statistics and Spearmans Rho were used to determine the relationships of the variables in the study. The findings revealed that there is no significant relationship between personal characteristics and experiences of social stigma. On the other hand, there were significant relationships between gender identity and sexual orientation identity expression and experiences of social stigma, and the experiences of social stigma and the extent to which they discuss gender sensitivity issues in the classroom. 2016-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/5356 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Gays--Philippines Lesbians--Philippines Gender identity--Philippines |
