Summary: | This action research project focused on addressing the delays, reworks, and errors encountered in the payroll process of our drivers and crews which resulted in their frequent complaints regarding compensation. Employee dissatisfaction was due to inefficiencies in the payroll processing of our drivers and crews who all work on a casual basis. We had no established process for payroll and relied on manual process. As the action researcher and Operations Assistant in our Trucking family business, I collaborated with my family members and other staff. This action research therefore aimed to improve the payroll process by implementing strategic and innovative approaches to save time and motivate our drivers and crew. Our team used the RACI matrix in designing the improvement of the payroll process. In the first cycle, we developed a standard procedure as a guide towards the proper allocation of task schedule and responsibilities. In the second cycle, we upgraded the payroll system to speed-up the tedious tasks in the payroll process. We used the Waterfall Methodology as a guide in the software development process of the enhanced payroll system. The results of our interventions led to timely wage distribution and accurate payroll details for the drivers and crews that helped address their concerns, while also increasing the productivity of employees. |
