Summary: | This action research addressed the team’s low level of employee motivation that leads to various concerns such as; (1) Decrease in team performance, (2) High absenteeism, and (3) Not being appreciated and valued from the team and management. Our company is a privately held institution with more than 76 years of experience administering financial services in investment funds, hedge-funds, and Eurobonds to multinational clients across the globe. The subject of this action research is a team who specializes in downloading of statements in the broker website. I work as an Operations Analyst, I am working on the reports of our priority clients specifically collateral transfers, options expiry, and downloading of statements in the broker website. In collaboration with my supervisors, and some members of the Broker Statement team, we have implemented two interventions for this action research project. As guided by the Motivating by Appreciation theory and ADKAR model, we have executed the following interventions: (1) Employee Appreciation Day Program and (2) APIR (Appreciate. Participate. Inspire. Recognize) Program using a platform. The creation of these programs validated the significant improvements of the Broker Statement team in terms of their performances, high absenteeism, and not being appreciated and valued within the team and management. Through the first implementation, the team are now following the any day is an appreciation day drill. To sustain the level of motivation of the analysts, the team is now utilizing the use of APIR platform through a hosted website in providing real time appreciation, setting off goals, and feedback. This action research is a declaration in the department that motivating by appreciation is an important element in the workplace. |
