Students often unable to see the social importance of science. Moreover, specifically for biology, learning was perceived to be a routine of memorization of facts rather than understanding the concepts and its application to real life. With this, the researcher would like to test if the use of Socio – Scientific based modules would help improve students informal reasoning and understanding on biodiversity in the view it can help improve science literacy in the long run. SSI – based modules were designed, developed, and developed to teach Biodiversity to Grade 9 students. This materials was used by two classes in Congressional Integrated High School. The pre-test and post-test results of both sections showed that there are significant difference on their understanding of biodiversity after the use of SSI – based modules. Furthermore, it was also found out that students’ reasoning levels also improved through the intervention. The use of SSI – based modules served as an authentic way of letting students learn through reading, reflecting, and discussing among one another about socio – scientific issues. 2018-12-07T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/6304 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=13370&context=etd_masteral Master's Theses English Animo Repository Biodiversity—Study and teaching Science and Mathematics Education |
